CrestRidge Assisted Living is a state-licensed Community Based Residential Facility (CBRF).  This differs from a Residential Care Apartment Complex (RCAC) in the following ways:

  • CBRFs are licensed and regularly inspected by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS).  RCACs are not licensed by DHS and are not regularly inspected.
  • CBRFs can provide unlimited supportive services to a resident including three hours of licensed nursing care per week.  RCACs can only provide up to 28 hours per week of supportive services to a resident, which includes health monitoring, medication management, housekeeping, or any other assistance with daily living tasks.
  • CBRFs can continue to care for a resident as their health and memory needs change or if their Power of Attorney becomes activated.  RCACs cannot care for those with memory challenges, complex physical conditions or an activated Power of Attorney.
  • CBRF pricing includes health care and supportive services including round-the-clock care staff, 24/7 licensed nurse availability, daily housekeeping, laundry services, meals and utilities.  RCAC base pricing typically includes only meals, utilities and occasionally a call pendant and minimal housekeeping.

Yes – we call it Respite Care, and it’s designed for seniors who need assisted living services just for a short time. Respite Care can be of great benefit while you or a loved one recover from an illness or injury. It can provide a caregiver a deserved break. But it can also be a way for you or a loved one to test the water of assisted living without having to commit to living there permanently. The person can meet staff and other residents, try out the meals and activities and get a good idea of what assisted living is really like.

The cost of long term care can seem daunting. For information about public funds and services that may be available to you and your family, we encourage you to contact the Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) in your area. These centers provide information on all aspects of life related to aging or living with a disability. Other options you can explore to ease the financial commitment of assisted living include long term care insurance, federal benefits provided through the Department of Veteran Affairs or the sale of an in-force life insurance policy.
